The Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center has fine tuned "Prep Course" options designed specifically for those individuals planning on going through the PATH International certification process.

The TWO DAY long instructional course is taught by a PATH International certified Advanced level evaluator / advanced level instructor, Kim Berggren and advanced level instructor, Emily Kalin, and gives participants a realistic idea of what the process is like and how they may score in an actual test setting.   The majority of the course is spent in the barn doing hands on activities including individual teaching evaluations and riding tests which simulate actual testing.

This course has been re-tooled in response to participants’ feedback.  The new TWO DAY course will look in depth at lesson planning, disabilities, “What’s, How’s, and Why’s,” riding skills, and horse assessment.

The ONE DAY mini-courses offer the attendees the option of attending only half of the two day course.
- The Instructor Development mini course focuses on developing the instructor… disabilities, lesson planning, and teaching techniques [including a mock teaching opportunity]are covered.
- The Equine Education mini course focuses on horse related skills... movement/analysis, horse selection, training, and riding skills [including a riding opportunity] will be covered.

Attendees will be evaluated on teaching a lesson (Saturday for the two day course) and/or performing the riding pattern* on Sunday (for the two day course).  Everyone will walk away with a report card detailing their strengths and areas that need improvement along with the confidence of knowing where they stand with the testing process.

Feedback from this course has been overwhelmingly positive, and to date, over 95% of those who have gone through the program and decided to attend the OSWC at Cheff have passed.  Participation is strongly recommended.  Limited seating available.

** Cheff has set a candidate weight limit of 225 lbs. - If you are over 225 lbs. please complete our horse experience form, including a short video of your riding; demonstrating walk, trot, and canter in your preferred seat.  We may be able to accommodate you.

“This gave me a better understanding of all the parts to teaching and riding and how to explain them. It really shows weaknesses in a constructive format. I feel much more prepared for the final certification.”
