Thinking Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies at Cheff are for you/someone you know? Read on!
In order to be sure that this is a good fit for all involved, and to get each client scheduled in a space that would be most beneficial to them, Cheff has a 5 step intake process.
1. Give us a call at 269-731-4471
We’ll chat with you about the specifics of you/your client’s situation and figure out if you/your client qualifies for our services, and if so, what program may be best.
2. Schedule an assessment
Assessments are strategically scheduled during quiet programming hours and are conducted by one of our instructors. These appointments help us determine how we can make your experience at Cheff most beneficial and are designed to give everyone a good idea of what to expect on their first day of programming. We introduce you to the facility, the program process, determine what type of horse is appropriate, and what level of support is needed.
3. Fill out client paperwork
Client paperwork MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO YOUR ASSESSMENT.
3a. Check out this Social Story if you feel it may be beneficial to you or your client.
Social stories are used in a variety of ways and can facilitate behavior patterns. Social stories can tell a story about a new experience (such as coming to Cheff for the first time or starting school), help with transitions (from one activity to the next), learn about social skills (sharing and taking turns), learn a new routine (getting ready in the morning), help set expectations for general behavior in a situation, and can be used for specific behavioral issues (spitting, biting, hitting). A combination of pictures, short descriptive sentences, and the portability of taking the story along with you can aid in setting your child up for success in various settings.
4. Attend your assessment
5. Sign up for a riding session
We will work with you to determine the best fit available on our schedule for your needs and walk you through the sign up process. This often happens prior to leaving your assessment. Cheff’s current schedule is very full and day/time options for new riders may be limited. We will do our best to find something that works!
