Self Care for the Caregiver

  • Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center 8450 North 43rd Street Augusta, MI, 49012 United States (map)

If you are a caregiver of ANY kind, you’ve heard it before, probably more than once, (or 10!) times..”You HAVE to care for yourself!”.  And you may think, yes, sure, that’s great, but WHEN?

Whether you are caring for an adult or child with a disability, an aging or ill parent, or spouse, work in the helping professions, or are a caregiver in ANY form, you realize that time for self care is limited. Cheff is offering a care-giver specific group—with a dedicated time frame during the day on a Friday, a day when our participants have told us is easier, (not easy) to get help to break away for a few hours.  We are offering this unmounted, hands-on horse group during the day, so our participants can avoid winter night time driving.

No experience with horses is necessary, and this group is appropriate for ages 18 and up.  Caregiver is a term that is defined by the participant. We will spend time working with an equine one-on one, while we explore ways to manage stress, have fun with our horses, and just for a few hours, allow ourselves to be the center of attention and focus.

Art and journaling and other creative activity options are available.  Many people choose to spend most of the time one on one with “their” horse.  Light snacks are served. While this is not a therapy group, many participants find the benefits therapeutic and helpful.  The group size is kept small so participants can have time for one on one activities with a horse.
